Nightmares

The idea of nightmares, you know, the ones where you're not sure you're asleep or not... and your eyes start playing tricks on you. It's surprising how your mind turns shapes into threatening things: a coat hanging up becomes a dark figure, objects appear to move... If you are having a nightmare and you realise this, occasionally you can control the dream and enjoy it. You just have to hope you are really dreaming!

  5. Nice stuff, great movement, and yes, very creepy, like old fashioned ghost stories in away, you know, when people used to believe in things...

  6. Thanks Andrew! That was the effect I'd intended... It's kind of a shame that all the mystery and imagination has been lost, everything is explainable scientifically and coldly... So it's nice for us to try and rediscover that in some way.

  7. Creepy like that you can only see half of some characters coming out of the gloom, very London winter style!

  8. Hi Guthrie, yeah...that's kind of what I was hoping to convey. After a while I am starting to go back to this kind of imagery and I'm enjoying it :-)

  10. I like your use of line and how all the characters are defined by their eyes. Plus, thanks for the insight on what birds dream about.

  11. I think you have managed to balance horror and fun very well in this illustration. Yeas, it's creepy but it also makes me smile :)
Thanks for your kind visit, Joe.

  12. I sometimes like looking around in the dark just before I fall asleep, the way familiar things turn strange...

Love your illustration. It reminds me of of Maurice Sendak.

  13. Paola, thanks. That's what I was hoping for, to give the image a bit of humour as well as it being a bit dark... :-)

Cheryl, thanks for the encouraging comment, I suppose what you see depends on your imagination and what films you watched before you went to bed...
