Waiting for the bus on a Friday night

Having spent much of my life waiting for buses in various locations, especially in south London, I decided that something productive should come from all that apparently wasted time. I wanted to portray the characters that turn up after dark, and this is the result. I enjoyed this, but it took a while to complete. I took some of the earlier character ideas and put them into a situation of  mild hopelessness, waiting and waiting for a bus to show up.

  2. I spy a couple of inveterate optimists in the lower left hand corner. It has been said that cheerfulness is the British religion (by Bill Bryson).

  3. It may appear bleak but the situation is only temporary, and you can choose whether or not to make the most of your time or be stressed. Either way, you still have to go through it (unless you can afford a cab).

  4. Lots of drunken birds and animals!
I really like your idea and details are gorgeous.

  5. I love the look and feel of your work. It reminds me somewhat of Maurice Sendak. And this piece definitely captures the frustration of taking public transportation. Wonderful work.

  7. Richard bought me a print of this as a wedding pressie as I live in Peckham and frequent the bus stop and I love it! I am sure I have met the angry bloke in the bottom right corner! I love that some of them are drinking Red Stripe but am a bit worried about the characters in the top left - are they an axe murderer and a sniper?

  8. I'm so glad you like it... And Congratulations! I'm particularly happy that you know exactly what I'm referring to here. I wouldn't worry about the characters in the window, they're a bit distracted, although maybe the sniper could be a concern... :-)
